Design For Exploration: class projects by Stanford students

Saturday April 19, 2:00-4:00pm

Join us as we show works-in-progress created by Stanford students Bryan Quintanilla and Dan Somen enrolled in “Design for Exploration”, a course taught at the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Stanford design lecturer John Edmark and Exploratorium Science Content Developer Sebastian Martin have worked with 12 students for the past 10 weeks, introducing them to concepts of hands-on science teaching, designing for interactivity, and rapid prototyping. Informed by a constrained palette of materials, and modeling their work on art pieces as well as science exhibits, students found inspiration for prototyping new projects and evolved them through many iterations.

On display will be “Electric Arc Speaker” by Dan Solmen and “Wax Waterfall” by Bryan Quintanilla.
