Thank You

It’s hard to believe, but it’s been a year since we launched Helix.  With gratitude to Passerelle Investments for the one-year grant that has made Helix possible, and to the entire community of Los Altos, we would like to announce that the last day open will be Sunday, November 30, 2014.  Thank you for sharing a year of exploration and discovery with us.  It has been our pleasure to share the Exploratorium with you in an intimate, community-focused form.

Helix has truly been a successful program.  Through this project, we have learned a tremendous amount about what it means to develop and operate a community-based science center.  Over the last year we have seen 50,000 visitors come through our doors.  We have facilitated workshops and field trips for K-12 students from San Mateo to San Jose and professional development workshops for Los Altos and Palo Alto Unified Schools District teachers and administrators.  We have collaborated with numerous community partners, scientists, and artists.

Helix has demonstrated the power, impact and viability of a community-based science center, and we are inspired by the potential the Los Altos community has helped us to uncover.  We believe that this experience will help us explore similar models locally and worldwide.  We look forward to sharing what we’ve learned with the Los Altos community, and other communities, on this website.

We invite you to join us to celebrate Helix and the Helix community during our final weekend.  More details about the weekend celebration can be found here.

On behalf of Helix and the entire Exploratorium community, we’d like to say a big thank you, once again.

We look forward to the opportunity to further the special relationship we’ve built with Los Altos, and we hope to see you at the Exploratorium’s main site at Piers 15/17, online, and out in the community.

Sincerely,

The Helix Team
